1970's

It all started with an idea and a chemical engineer whose name was David von Broembsen. Having come from a line of inventors, David took the opportunity to create his first membrane prototype of an electrolytic process for producing chlorine. In a small workshop David worked on the first salt chlorinator until he had a product he could sell. In a market where concentrated chemicals ruled the roost, David went onto install his chlorinators in mines, large pools and even a dolphinarium in South Africa. The first prototype chlorinator can still be seen today in the ChlorKing manufacturing facility!

1999

In 1999, David partnered with fellow South African Steve Pearce to launch ChlorKing® Inc. U.S.A., and they moved manufacturing and distribution to Atlanta, GA. This enabled them to take advantage of the untapped U.S commercial swimming pool market, where on-site chlorine generation and salt chlorination were starting to make gains against traditional granular or liquid chlorine to sanitize water.

2009

In 2009 ChlorKing® launched its NEXGEN line of chlorine generators, which are the first of its kind to produce pH neutral chlorine on-site, using the swimming pool as the source water for the product. An acquisition in 2009 also launched ChlorKing® into Ultraviolet light technology. Together with the founding partners of Sentry UV, ChlorKing® now offers a cost-effective, low-maintenance ultraviolet light systems for commercial swimming pools and spas that are NSF/ANSI-50 certified. By combining ultraviolet light technology with primary sanitization technologies, such as onsite chlorine generation and salt chlorination, ChlorKing® continues to grow not only with current products but with new and exciting emerging technologies as well. We have more than 15,000 commercial swimming pool and water park installations worldwide.

2019

In 2019 ChlorKing® launched our line of hypochlorous acid generators, “HYPOGEN” for on-site production of HOCl in many different industries, including agriculture, food processing and general disinfection of hard surfaces.

2024

2024 is a big step forward for ChlorKing. ChlorKing is acquired by Hayward Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: HAYW) (“Hayward” or the “Company”), a global designer, manufacturer, and marketer of a broad portfolio of pool equipment and outdoor living technology. This strategic acquisition advances Hayward's technology for commercial swimming pool water treatment, broadens its commercial product offering, and underscores its commitment to enhancing leadership in sustainable water management and treatment.
